What we do

The little jobs on the list

Every house has a list of jobs that never get done. On a safety visit we do the ones that fit in the visit's time.

Included in the visit

  • Re-hang a cabinet door or fix a drawer that sticks

  • Replace a faucet washer or tighten a loose fitting

  • Quiet a squeaky tread or a loose floorboard

  • Hang a shelf or a mirror at a safe height

  • Change a furnace filter, and replace a worn weatherstrip

What changes the time

What makes a visit longer

Small repairs share the visit with the safety list, so they come second. A long list goes on the next visit or a plan with repairs.

Parts we buy are added at what we paid, with the receipt.

A repair that turns out to be bigger than it looks is stopped and priced before we go on.

How it goes

From the call to the report

  1. 01

    Step 1: The list

Your parent, or you by text, gives us the list before the visit.

  2. 02

    Step 2: The order

Safety items come first, then the small repairs that fit.

  3. 03

    Step 3: The stop

If a repair will run past the visit, we stop and tell you what it needs.

  4. 04

    Step 4: The report

You get what was done and what is left for the next visit.

Rules

Where we stop

We are handymen, not licensed plumbers or electricians. We do small repairs that need no permit and no license.

Repainting a room, especially in a house built before 1978, is a job for a painter certified under the EPA's renovation rule.

Questions

Questions about this work

Do you charge more for repairs?

Not on a visit. A repair is part of the visit's time. A plan with repairs gives you three hours instead of 90 minutes.

Can you fix a leaky faucet?

A dripping washer, yes. Anything inside the wall goes to a plumber.

Can you paint?

Small touch-ups only, and not on painted surfaces in houses built before 1978.
