Questions
Everything families ask first
What happens on a quarterly visit?
We call the day before. Two of us come, walk the house with your parent and go through that season's list: stairs, rails, lighting, doors, the bathroom, rugs and cords. We fix what we can in the visit's time. Anything bigger goes on a short written list with your parent's say-so first.
Does my parent have to be home?
Yes for the first visit, so they can show us what bothers them. After that, if your parent prefers, the two of you can agree in writing on a key arrangement. We never come without a call first.
How is the plan billed, and how do I cancel?
The plan is billed at each visit, not in advance, and you can stop at any time by texting us before the next visit is booked. See the plan page for what each visit includes.
Is the plan insurance?
No. It is a set of scheduled visits. It is not insurance, a warranty or a service contract, and it does not cover the cost of repairing anything beyond the time and parts of a visit.
Do you tell me what you find?
Only with your parent's okay. If they agree, you get a short written report after each visit, with photos of anything we changed or recommend changing.
What won't you do?
Electrical wiring, plumbing and gas work, roof work, anything that needs a permit, and walls or structure. We name a licensed trade for those and can be there when they come.
My parent's house was built before 1978. Is that a problem?
Many Rochester houses are older than that and may have lead paint. Federal rules cover paid work that disturbs more than 6 square feet of paint inside or 20 square feet outside, and any window replacement or demolition. We keep our repairs under those limits and do not sand or scrape old paint. If a job would go past them, we refer it to a contractor certified under the EPA's renovation rule.
Do you work from an occupational therapist's recommendations?
Yes. If your parent has a written home assessment from an occupational therapist or a physician, we follow it. We are not clinicians, so we do not make medical recommendations.
How does the gift card work?
You choose one visit or a full year of four. We send a card to you or to your parent, then call your parent to find a day. Your parent decides what we look at.
What if it snows on the day of a visit?
We call and move it. A winter visit is mostly indoors, so we move it only for roads, not for weather alone.
Is there a minimum charge?
A single visit is the minimum. It covers the drive, up to 90 minutes with two people and the written list. Materials are billed at what we paid for them.
Which towns do you cover?
Rochester and the towns around it in Monroe County. The service area section lists them, and the contact page has a form you can use if yours is not there.

Still have a question?
